Life shows you a lot. One can make all the verbal statements they want but the action is what it’s all about. Don’t get me wrong, positive reinforcement is great. Speaking into existence without work following is equivalent to talking to a wall. After you are on this earth long enough, you’ll see the cream rise to the top. Yes, there are a lot of people who desire the great things life can offer. Yes, some people will start and give their goals/desires a shot. The thing is everyone isn’t built for what it takes to obtain what it is they want. Simply put when it comes to making things happen there are 2 types of people, those who make things happen and those who don’t. Anyone can talk a good game. Act as if they are big and bad and ready to take on the world. Say what they would do if this or if that. They behave this way until it’s time to show and prove. This is where the sorting of the actual doers and the talkers commences.
Most of us, speak in ignorance. Having no idea how much work, worry, and stress goes into obtaining something that not many people obtain. Somehow, the logic of only a small number of people achieving something being accompanied by requirement of some sort of heavy lifting, be it hard work, deep research, constant practice, or social prowess misses the masses. It is slightly understandable that people have this common but false belief. All the success we see is packaged as instant and easily attainable. LeBron James has been playing basketball since he could walk but many look at his excellence and ascension from poverty as common. The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is a world-class athlete, who is also a 3rd generation wrestler, that had the opportunity to practice acting and speaking in front of crowds for 10 plus years before smoothly transitioning into a Hollywood star. Yet people watch him in a movie and proclaim they can do better.
Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world at the time of writing this piece, simply started an online bookstore and managed to grow it into the biggest e-commerce store the world has ever seen. Most ignore the fact, he left his job in 1993 and started Amazon out of his garage in 1994. Had the guts to go up against then titan bookstore company Barnes and Noble and beat them. He then successfully added music and video sales into the company’s repertoire. Then web services, warehousing, putting a stranglehold on the entire US shipping industry without owning any companies within it, obtaining 70% amazon membership of US households. He wanted to provide fresh produce via the website so of course the company bought wholefoods and supplied same day shipping service to Amazon members. All of this, yet people who’ve yet to do anything consistently for 5 years have the gull to complain about their pizza cutter getting to them in 3 days instead of 2 days or their firestick buffering twice in one day. Well, sorry to disappoint some of you consumers but some people create great things to the best of their ability to be enjoyed by the masses while some of us just get good at complaining about them.

So, what is so special about those who make it happen? How did they break away from the bunch? Where they ever in the bunch? Well, the people who make things happen have been doing it since childhood and simply (not easily) continued to do so through adulthood. Most were born with little to nothing. The back against the wall position is nothing new to them. The only variant is how they got there. Life could have put them there. They could have put themselves there. Whatever the case, they bust their tails to allow their back to breathe again. Whatever it takes. They do. They can smile through it. They may complain through it. The important part is the action.
They work and work and work. This is what they have trained themselves to do. The only shortcoming, if any, is the lack of understanding they have for those who don’t. It is hard for them to empathize with people cowering in the face of a 5-foot wave when they’ve braved a monsoon in a paddleboat. If you run into one of these go-getting, make it happen people brace yourself for a no-nonsense approach to life. There is a time to work and a time to play and with them, it’s always in that order.
In closing, I can’t hide what side I’m on. I’m a make-it-happen type of person. Yes, I’ve been in bad situations life threw me in. I’ve also put myself in a few predicaments. The only thing to do in these situations is work to get out of them. Plan and execute. Continue doing what works and stop what doesn’t. It’s not easy and it does irritate people like myself when people who don’t make things happen, look for sympathy when they realize the work involved. I cannot stomach loud, brash people whose mouth will tell you they’ll be bigger and better than Bezos but actions explain why they couldn’t even get to the garage step.
We remember the loud you and don’t believe the modesty of this enlightened form of you. Oh, and no we will not be humble about our triumph once completed. You’ll hear about it because we didn’t just dream about it. We obtained it. We maintained it. We made it happen. Cheers to those fellow go-getters. It’s good to know you are out there. Work now. Play later and for way longer.
Food for thought…You do the dishes.
